June 18 – 24, 2025, Liptovský Ján

Boccia Tatra Cup 2025

9th year of the open international boccia tournament
Individuals, Pairs, Teams / 3-member Integration Team

The prestigious international tournament with the rich accompanying program

Up to 5 competition days, the participation of several top European players, but also the possibility of classified boccia players of all performance levels and the BC5 category starting, plus the 2nd year of the 3-member Integration team tournament for players without sports classification, traditionally amazing atmosphere, accompanying program to support the boccia development, as well as space for joint meet and active relaxation of participants,…

The 9th event year brought together more than 200 direct participants and the record number of classified and recreational boccia players from 8 countries of the wider Central European region and Great Britain (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, England and Ukraine) with a significant predominance of players from the V4 countries. There were names such as Radek Procházka (CZE/BC4), Anamarija Arambašić (CRO/BC4), Vivien Nagy (HUN/BC2), Jiřina Kreibichová (CZE/BC2), or from the domestic top Róbert Mezík (SVK/BC2), Tomáš Král (SVK/BC1), Martin Strehársky (SVK/BC4), Rastislav Kurilák (SVK/BC2), as well as many others. In proportion to the number of players (4 in total), the representatives of England did the most this year, clearly dominating the BC3 category. They won gold in both the BC3 individual and pair competitions, and none of the English players returned to the British Isles without a medal.

The new feature of this tournament and the tribute to the memory of Harry Thompson, the English boccia player who loved this event and, if he were still alive, would certainly not have missed it this year either, is the “Harry Thompson Traveling Cup”. This valuable trophy, the gift from Harry’s mother Michelle, arrived in Slovakia all the way from England. As this year winner of the BC4/5 Individual category, its first holder was Radek Procházka, the top player from the Czech Republic. Harry Thompson’s legacy remains alive in boccia and the Boccia Tatra Cup participants will remember him by this every year.

The project also included evening trainings “Workshops with Michaela and Samuel”, the international workshop for boccia referees, and the creation of the practical manual for boccia referees entitled “Guidebook – Rules Version 2025–2028 V1.1.”, focused on the implementation of current boccia rules for the period 2025 – 2028.
