8th year of the open international boccia tournament
Individuals, Pairs, Teams / 3-member Integration Team
… up to 5 competition days, the opening of competitions for the BC5 category, as well as the pilot year of the international tournament of 3-member integration teams in boccia for players without sports classification. In addition, early evening training “Workshops with Samuel and Michaela” and another accompanying program, or more space for meeting and relaxing. All this was met with a surprisingly positive response from a total of more than 200 event participants and enhanced the traditionally wonderful atmosphere of this event, also its contribution to social inclusion.
More than 80 boccia players participated in the BTC 2024 event competitions – classified and unclassified from 5 the wider Central European region countries (SVK, CZE, POL, HUN, CRO), with a significant preponderance of players from the V4 region. In addition to the top Slovak players, the tournament again attracted several European and world-class players to Slovakia, while after the competitive careers official end of Samuel Andrejčík (BC4) and Michaela Balcova (BC4) – both “golden” paralympic representatives of the Slovak Republic, the mixed BC4/5 category was clearly ruled by the Croatians. In the individual competition, they took care of a purely Croatian final, and in their category they won supremely in the pairs competition as well.
The upcoming generation of young players from Slovakia and other V4 countries did not miss BTC 2024. The tournament creates space for them to gain valuable gaming experience in the high-level international competition and its accompanying program “Workshops with Samuel and Michaela” in the early evening also the opportunity to learn directly from the best. The “discovery” of the year was only 16-year-old talented player from Poland Marcin Ostrowski (BC3), who in the strong competition of seasoned opponents only “by a hair” missed a medal in the individual category and in the pair with experienced teammate Jarosław Plewa (POL/BC3) he even reached a medal position in his quite the first start abroad.
The opening of the BTC tournament for the BC5 category was used by several players of this, otherwise exclusively national, category. In addition, the pilot year of the BTC tournament of 3-member integration teams made the event competitive part available to players with milder forms of physical handicap and other handicap types without any chance for sports classification. The first ever international tournament of 3-member integration teams in the V4 region was won by the Hungarian team from Pest, consisting of Kinga Kienle, Gábor Kienle and András Sipos.
